Dev Update #281

Slowly getting back to work.

That was a pretty slow week. I made limited progress on the posing front. The last twenty shots were pretty difficult to pose, with a lot of contact and interactions. It should be easier from now on and I expect to progress a bit faster, especially as I should also have more time available next week.

I'm still pretty bad at animating stuff. I just finished rendering animation #2 for the second time. It doesn't look bad, but it feels weirdly slow. I'm not sure it's a question of speed however. I'm not sure what to do with it.

I still need to work on animation #1 again, and restart it from scratch. The more I think about the animation situation, the more I'm scared of actually diminushing the value of the game with subpar animations. Maybe I'll make them optionnal through a switch in the preference screen, so that the player who don't want to endure them can get a decent experience through stills only. I know it's a weird stance, but I do think that some players might be interested.

Rendering is progressing nicely. The renders honestly look good, in my opinion. That's one more reason to worry about the quality of the animations.

Steam.

I still won't talk about the sales, as I think it's a bit too soon. However, I couldn't help noticing a dramatic increase in the wishlists since the release. I wonder if it can have an impact on Steam's algorithm now that the game is available. I couldn't find a definitive answer to that question.

The quick sum up :

  • Day 6 Part 6 will contain 3 new scenes: scenes 30, 31, and 32.
  • Day 6 Part 6 will contain 1 reworked scene: Day 2, scene 3.
  • 5060 words of new content so far.
  • 149 shots are planned, 90 are posed, 83 are rendered.
  • 2 animations have been posed. 16 seconds, 540 frames.
  • I'm currently posing scene 30.

You can follow my progress on this Trello board.

You can also add the game to your wishlist on Steam !

hey there cap...speaking for myself, i can say that i'm really not too concerned about animations, i've enjoyed the game as it is.  i own the game here on itch, but i decided to pick it up on steam too...i want to see this game succeed. i popped into the discord too, so you may or may not see me making some silly posts there now and then.  :)  oh..and the number of achievements available in the steam version is quite impressive. didn't expect so many.

Well, thank you for your support!

There will be more achievements in the future. Steam seems to have unlocked my account in that regard.

nice!  i'll look forward to those new achievements then, im sure it will take some time for me to get through the existing ones, though. :)

A detail concerning the achievements : at the moment, there are more achievements in the game than in Steam. These achievements will synchronize with Steam once they will be added to the plateform.

I’ve come across the same issue with videos. It’s a LOT of work for not much payoff.  Long videos are so much work. Short ones are like “why bother”?

What I am doing with my game is faking the short videos for now.  By putting a few frames the each show slight movement with a dissolve tag between them and then using the same ones a few times over and over.  Looks close enough for now.

Then I just move on with my other stuff.   In the meantime, I do spend a little bit of time each week trying to teach myself how to make better videos.   My plan is to go back and replace the fake videos with real ones when I get done the main story.

This way, the people that need video to be happy will eventually get it.  The ones that are content with the short little fakes like I did can enjoy it now, and I’m not wasting any extra time on it.

I might go for a similar approach.
I can't keep wasting my time trying to make something decent while my skills are clearly not enough to do so, at least for now. I am learning stuff, so it's not entirely useless, but still.
Thank you for your insight!
