Dev Update #112
Still posing Scene 10 ! It's 196 renders long so far and still not complete.
That thing never ends. I couldn't reuse as many shots as I thought I would, so I'm posing every frame I initially planned. I advanced quite a bit this week but it still isn't complete. I need about 30 more shots to finish the scene... If I don't rewrite a couple of things that I'm not sure about anymore.
I reworked a couple of paragraphs and had to repose some shots that were already done (but not rendered). I'm still globally happy with the scene but on a couple of parts, I feel like I can do something better without any major rework. It's a matter of a few well-placed sentences to better convey the feelings of the characters.
Anyway, I thought I would be done with scene 10 by the end of this week, and I am not. When I first decided that Summer Scent would be a branching story, I knew that the scenes would get bigger and bigger. However, even if I was prepared for this, working on these long scenes is tiresome. That's a lesson for the future. My next game will have fewer and simpler paths.
That update has officially passed the 1000th render and 50 000 words mark and it's not even the third of what the full Day 6 should be.
The quick sum up :
- Day 6 Part 1 will contain 10 scenes.
- Scenes 1 to 10 are written.
- Scenes 1 to 9 are posed and rendered. Scene 10 posing is ongoing.
- Scenes 1 to 9 are coded.
- 50 304 words, 9270 lines of code, 1035 shots are posed and 995 are rendered.
- I'm currently posing scene 10.

I am sure that the patrons enjoy branching stories
To a certain extend, I guess.
The average player will probably try and play the paths which contents pleases him and try to avoid the ones that would make him uncomfortable.
From that perspective, all the time I spend working on a path the player doesn't like is probably wasted.
The only thing about that is that there will be a core path and then different people will get uncomfortable with different paths. I know that I saves for 4 of the paths and I think that there are 6(7?) paths that continue after day 5.
My point is that the one of the paths I didn't take I seen comments for people liking. So yes, for me the other paths are wasted time but for someone else they are just fine. If you want to trim things down post a patreon poll of what paths did you take. And then gently end/kill the path(s) that lose or are not above some thresh hold.
Last time I checked there was something like 18 differents possibilities.
I won't trim things down. Right from the start of the development of the game, I planned an early ending for some paths. That will ease the work to some extend but not by much. Most of the paths will stretch to the end of the week.
