Summer Scent V0.5 release


Summer Scent V0.5 is now available for Sailing Masters on Patreon and SubscribeStar.

It's been 8 months since the release of V0.4, and a long and bumpy road to get here. I need to thank you for your patience and continuous support.


What to expect?

  • Day 5 content is 1074 renders and about 87 850 words long. It's twice the size of V0.4 which was already twice the size of the previous version.
  • I have completely scrapped the gallery. It was buggy and inefficient.
  • I also got rid of the credits page.  More about that in the "What about the future?" part of this post.
  • I've reworked the save and load page but couldn't go as deep as I wanted. It's still a work in progress. As a consequence, the Save / Load interface will be a mess when it'll come to display your old save files.


The touchy subject of saves compatibility.

Most of my beta-testers didn't encounter any problems with their old save files, but some others had some very weird variable conflicts leading to continuity error and skipped content. I couldn't find the source of that bug and therefore I can't tell you if your saves will be okay or not. Sorry about that.


What about the future?

  • Day 6, of course.

I already know that it will be bigger than Day 5 but I can't allow myself to another 8 months or even longer time without release. So, I'll split V0.6 into several parts. I don't know how many yet. It's a decision I'll do once I've completed the outline and the scene map for the whole Day 6 content. I'll probably have to change the format of my version numbers to make it more understandable.

  • The gallery.

As I said, I scrapped it. I  think about replacing it with some kind of achievement system with a more selective gallery as a "reward".

  • The credits.

That's also something I scrapped and want to rework. I want to have a proper credits screen at the end of the game. Also, and I've already talked about that in a previous post, I initially included the "your name on the credits page" perk on the Sailing Master tier. I want to change that because I feel like it's unfair and not really representative of your support. So, let's change that to "anyone with a $10 lifetime support". Also, as not everyone wants his name on the credits page of an adult game, this will be an opt-in option. Please, if you want your name on the credits page, message me to tell me what name you want me to write on that screen.

  • Reworking the previous days.

There are some problems with my renders in the Day 5 content. I couldn't just rerender it for the release as there are hundreds of images to rework. And let's be honest there's also a lot of problems with my renders in the previous releases. So I'm thinking of slowly reworking every render of the game so far while I'll keep working on Day 6.

  • Game size and distribution.

The game size is now around 2 Gb. As it will grow even bigger with future releases, I'm searching for a way to ease its distribution. I'm also wondering if I should propose a compressed version and/or lossless image packages. Expect a poll on these matters in the next coming months.

  • Some music!

I want to add music to Summer Scent. I originally wanted to have a friend of mine working on it but as he is reticent to work on an adult game, I'll have to find another solution. My ears are already bleeding.


Sooo...

I'm going to spend the next month working on :

  • The outline and the scene map for Day 6 content.

It's my priority and I'm starting right this instant.

  • The UI.

The save/load screen clearly needs some more work, the gallery/achievement system is a thought I have to experiment on and the credits screen needs to happen as I have many persons to thank. And more globally, there are things I want to try and there will probably some bug to fix.

  • Music.

I'm going to listen to find the right tracks. I already know it will be difficult.

  • Android port.

Just like for V0.4, I'm going to make my own port for android. However, I have a few things to fix on the UI before I can release something playable. But it will happen soon. (Days? Maybe a week ?)

You can expect an upgraded version of V0.5 in a month or so.


I'm pretty sure I've forgotten something essential but I'm really eager to release v0.5 so I'll stop that post here.
