I played through the game once and loved it. Great femdom stuff in this one. I played through again and was loving it because decisions actually matter, the game changes a lot with different play throughs. But holy shit, be warned this game gets fucking DARK. I got to the end of my second play through and just had to close the game. I dont think i want to play any more. Super buzz kill. You're not ready for what this game has in store. I dont know how to feel about it.

Yes, it is possible. Both for Eve's Submission and Cassie's Love path.
You can interact with one or the other or with both girls. You don't have to romance one girl to have the other one.
The bad end happens only on the dual love path and is avoidable, so you can romance only Cassie, or romance both and make the right choices to avoid that bad ending.
Not really a comment but if I buy the game on itch.io for $5 do I just get the latest update or do I get future versions as well? I don't want to pay $5 everytime a new update comes out. To be completely honest. I don't know. On my side, it's labeled as "early access". So you should pay once and own it forever with every updates that will come in the future. But I didn't try it myself so I wouldn't bet my life on that...
Hi, I bought Summer Scent one year ago to download the latest Version at that time and was able to download the 0.6.1b version in November. You only need to buy it once.
It depends on the author. Normally once paid, the game is yours. But some authors bring out new versions at higher prices, so you need to pay that price to own the latest updated version. Like, you bought it at $5, but v2 is now at $10 - you won't be able to get V2 unless you pay $10... (paying the difference does not seem possible, unfortunately).
Other authors bring out the latest v2 at $15 and then after a certain time, drop down to the original $5, so you just need to wait.

I plan to release on Steam at some point and, as I understand it, I will have to increase the price tag here on Itch. I hoped that it wouldn't impact the ones that already have bought the game. If I understand you correctly, they would then have to buy it again at full price ?
My understanding of the itch price structure is perhaps not complete, as I am only consuming things here on itch. So it might be different than what I say here. But yes, I have paid $5 for a game ( Knightly Passions ) and then when they upped the price tot $10, had to pay $10 again, so in total $15. Currently you can download version 6 for free, version 7 for $1 and version 8 for $10 (discount of 50% as the new price is $20).

You should probably contact another author on itch who went to steam (Lockheart from Avalon is somebody who tried this, he might have tips if you contact him via his Discord, although it was apparently not totally positive).
I can think of several things you could try :
you could keep an older version here for a lower price, if steam allows that ?
when your game is complete, you could release it here first for a short time, so people who already have it can grab the download at the price they paid it and then just before when it is going live on steam, you up the price on itch to the same price on steam : this gives people who already paid a chance to grab it for the same price
you change the price on itch.io now already to the future price that you will set on steam - and yes that means a few early clients that will not be very happy, but the sooner you do it the better it will be for everyone else - the reach of steam is far greater but perhaps the price could be the same ?
apparently there is or was a way to give out steam keys to people on other platforms (not sure this still works or will work in the future): you can supply a limited number of these steam keys to existing users on itch ?
you could set up a discord server and let itch users who pay a certain amount get access to it. And on that server you could do what you want, but it seems to me to be a messy solution with lots of work (I think most people do this with Patreon / SS )
Again, best to talk to an author here who did this already.

Its my first time playing this type of games. But i believe there will be future continuation to the story as I got the screen for the main menu before any major events (i.e sex). I dont know how it compares to other games but it feels like a masterpiece with those graphics, and I surely will try different approaches. Keep up the great work, Cap.
The story will indeed continue, I'm continuously working on new content. There are several paths in Summer Scent, many of which include some "naughty" content. You should probably retry it with different choices!

I have a recommendation; I wish you could bring the notification when gaining affection or dom etc… to a more noticeable place because it’s easy to miss. And can you use larger fonts for dialogue or shade the area behind it. Hope my ideas can help.
The interface will be reworked many times again before the final release of the game. Everything is subject to change. I have plans, I just don't know when I'll have the time to work on that part.
I'm far from being done with it but yeah, I can promise you that the second game will be better. I'm learning a lot and there are several mistakes and traps I'll take care to avoid in my next project.
Hi there Captain! Couldn't sleep at 11PM, wanted to try a light adult game and here I am at 3AM having reached what looks like the 'bad ending' (v0.5.5), after an unexpectedly emotional adventure… don't want to spoil things for others, but what a profound and beautiful storytelling experience you have created here! It's a nice departure from other similar VNs that make it unrealistically easy to build a harem (not saying these are not fun). There's probably a way to do that (I think?) but clearly one must strike a very precise balance to achieve it. I'm looking forward to testing different paths! This is a game that achieves treating young love & lust in a very mature way. At first I thought there was a lot of narration, but it is well written and flowing, and that's what eventually works. It is quickly made clear that things will not end nicely nor easily with the YOLO route, and that you must think twice about your choices… The only suggestions I would have is to add some soulful music, and that the thin white font is often hard to read over some images.

I'm glad you liked Summer Scent. There is indeed a way to grow a love-based relationship with both Eve and Cassie. The YOLO route, as you name it, is something I wanted to avoid. Some paths are easier than others but I tried to keep things consistent and meaningful.
Music is on its way. I need to find the right track, which isn't easy. But it's a work in progress. Fonts and readability have been improved in v0.6, but I'll probably have to rework it some more.
Well, I donated my bit to get the latest version a few weeks back and played through a few different times over the last week. Very impressive piece of storytelling. My first play through was the bad ending that was a real gut punch.

Hey, I'm having an issue getting 0.6.1 to install/run.
Do I need to have both 0.5.5 and 0.6.1 installed? I've tried running the 0.6.1 but it says images are missing and it just comes up with text saying I can rolback, ignore etc.
The Naughty Captain developer has really made one of the better adult games period. The time put in to release finished updates that stay true to the original story is so rare. Hopefully, supporters, who can give some support to Patreon. Too many good makers fall to the abyss due to lack of supporters. Can't wait for the next release.
I played many games on here and never had the urge to leave a comment. But this is different, I created an account extra for this, to let you know that this is truly my favourite game on here.
Other games might have animations, music, voiceacting, minigames, and so on. But SS has what all other games (that I'm aware of) lack: it has depth, it has emotional struggle, it has amazingly immersive insights into the character's thinking, it has the ability to convey panic, heartbreak, lust, and confusion.
When I first played I got the bad ending and it left me struck. You sure must have lived through some tough break-up in order to know all these small details and describe them so well. If not, you seem to have a really good sense of empathy.
Can I spare Cassie and have Eve exclusively? Because boi right now I'm nervous about a death.. To Clarify I hate harems but I prefer Eve and I want to be exclusive WITHOUT Cassie dying or being hurt.

God Damn I'm invested, I read The Comments and was so worried as I progressed about bad endings and death but I ended up getting so invested in Cassie my heart melted watching her. I've not tried multiple playthroughs yet or harems. I just got so interested in Cassie. The story and play through is solid the scenes are so good.
What I love is what you feel is the right decision or the better one can really be the bad insane fuck things up. I thought being honest with Cassie on day 5 after the talk with Eve was the right thing but I upset her and I genuinely felt guilt and heartbreak xD. Please please keep it up.

The third key choice happens on Day 4 either at Cassie's place or during the night, with Eve. At Cassie's place: "This morning was very difficult to handle." Or at night in Eve's bedroom: "I don’t accept it." Yes, that means that you can meet Kelly and still have the throuple path right.
The fourth key choice happens during Day 4 night when you join Cassie in her bedroom. Choose "Except maybe cuddling a bit and having a nice talk." Finally, during Day 5, in Cassie's bedroom, you should be able to choose the following options: "I will tell you everything", "I would choose no-one", "Apologize".
With more than 67 affection points for Eve, and Cassie, you will avoid Scene 7 and Cassie will stay home with you.
Just finished the free version a couple days ago. needed more, bought current update. Love everything about this game. @TheNaughtyCaptain, I think that stands out to me on this one (and maybe its just what I've played so far in other games?), there are so many paths, so many decisions. I played through 3 or 4 times and was still seeing new stuff.
Wishlist (Some I know were discussed in updates)
1) Hints at achievements so I could figure out what I'm missing
2)The Achievement page some I can open and view all the pictures, others are named and labeled like I unlocked it but they aren't clickable, not sure if I'm dumb or just not all are viewable again
3) Video achievement/gallery, I have a whole page of save points of "important" "Scenes" for "Science",
Yeah i am aware of that what i am trying to say is there should be a femdom path without pegging but it's your game i am not gonna talk shit about it because of the pegging still a nice game
Did it another try, sadly the beginning didn't change, still that nonsensical story about those rumours forwarded to your parents by the schoolmaster, and you get accused and insulted right away by someone you've been all but nice too. What kind of "schoolmaster" tells parents their daughter fools around in the toilets based on rumours ? The MC just measly bows his head, ready to apologize for something that makes no sense. Does it continue to be like that ? I somehow wanted to like the game, but I can't stand stories that impose some conjured up guild on the MC/player, sorry. Drama has to be believable to be accepted, unlike cheerful sexual fantasy. If it sounds made up, stretched, you don't understand why you should feel bad or sympathetic, which has a " cost" for the reader/player that, I don't know, comedy scenes don't have, for example.
I still haven't reworked that scene on Sunday morning. However, I think it's important to note that Jack's guilt and redemption are a big part of the game. Even if I rework the breakfast with Cassie, that won't change. What the headmaster did, Jack's attitude and so on aren't going to change. Those are things that are or will be explained later during the game. So if you don't like that, Summer Scent may not be a game for you.
I publish a dev update post every week so that my followers are informed of the progress of the development. The game itself, however, is updated only when a chapter is complete.
Question, is it possible to fill the gallery in a single playthrough, or is it required to do multiple to fill it? Cause I'm guessing some of them can only be unlocked with specific Eve stats (affection vs submission. Im guessing here).
The breakfast table scene in the throuple path is the funniest scene of the game imho until now. I just laughed so hard. Tried it a few times but missed it until now by one or two points so resigned to the sub/love path with Eve and Cassie. Thank you for the missing pointers.

First things first great job so far. I can't wait for future updates. Secondly, I took the path where you cheat on the friend with your childhood friend. Holy shit I literally cried! I do however have a question. If she's not really his sister then why is their relationship such a big deal?

wow... another game where the MC is getting insulted in the first 1/2 hour... it started nice and slow, but then, I am an "imbecile and an idiot" for having trusted "rumours" about my "sister" before the game even began... The headmaster told us she sucked dicks in the toilets based on some student's account... of course ... the family believed him... of course.... Gee. I agree it's well written for such games, but I am done with VNs constantly insulting / berating the player / MC for absurd reasons. I mean, what's the problem with you all ? Do you think we play games like this to be offended on the thinnest excuse made up by a loose plot ? If it's a game of choices and consequences, then at least only "punish" the MC for what the player actually choose to do, and for believable reasons...
Well, sorry if you don't like it. The fact that mc has been an asshole to Eve and is pretty much a moron is kind of the base of the game. The way he reconstruct his relationship with Eve is the core of Summer Scent. If you don't like it, I guess you should move on to another game. Thank you for trying my game, though!
That's weird, because the beginning of the narrative doesn't really give that impression. But if you say so, then yeah, being put in the shoes of an asshole right away is not really my thing. The problem is, beside the fact that he "believed the nasty rumours" about his sister, he doesn't seem to be such a terrible person.... And then the guest of HIS house, even after I was nice to her, just insults you for breakfast all of a sudden... and the MC is right away sorry etc... Something is missing, to make the player accept/understand the situation somehow. Or, let the girlfriend approach the subject more carefully, rather than being so aggressive, which didn't seem plausible ? Well, it's your game, it started well, honestly, but lately I have been a bit tired of vn using verbal abuse way too easily. I come here to relax, not to get bullied ^^
Well, The whole game is told from Jack's perspective. And he doesn't think he is an asshole. He thinks he is a good and virtuous dude. But he says it himself at the start of the game: around him, most people say that he is an asshole. He objectively is. The game, however, is subjectively told. He has done more than just believing the rumours. I give a few hints later in the game.
That being said I have to agree that the beginning of the game is a bit weak and I have some rework to do there. That discussion with Cassie on Sunday morning is on my list of things to rewrite. It clearly needs more context and more depth to be fully understandable.
Ok... well, you're right about the confusion at the beginning, I don't mind anti heroes as such, but context is vastly more important then. Other VN choose blank sheet main characters, which is the easiest (and possibly laziest) way to go, the hardest is to give him a distinct persona without making him too alienating forthe player... I guess there are two ways to play such games, either you distantiate yourself totally from the mc, or you identify with him, but I think the game must very early push you in either direction. Nobody wants to plays and identify with a "moron"... ;)
It can be someone who did something bad, with flaws.... sure, but he must have some redeeming qualities and not be the only black sheep around. That"s how I see it at least. Good luck with the writing anyway!
Well, depending on the path you choose, Jack can become something else and much more than a moron. He can completely change the way the girls look at him. Ultimately, I guess that Summer Scent is about redemption.

I just want to say GOOD GOD DAMN!! This is the most amazing writing I have ever experienced in a visual novel. I went for the throuple and it was by far the biggest impact I have ever experienced in one of these games. This is incredible. Keep up the spectacular work.

That ending is avoidable. With the right choices, you can continue the story on that path.
I have planned some other bad and bitter endings for Summer Scent, but none will be as dark as that one.

I think there may have just been an issue when it was first downloaded and a few files were missing maybe, I'm not sure.
I deleted everything, downloaded 0.6.1 and it extracted and booted up without issues.

I played many games on here and never had the urge to leave a comment. But this is different, I created an account extra for this, to let you know that this is truly my favourite game on here.
Other games might have animations, music, voiceacting, minigames, and so on. But SS has what all other games (that I'm aware of) lack: it has depth, it has emotional struggle, it has amazingly immersive insights into the character's thinking, it has the ability to convey panic, heartbreak, lust, and confusion.
When I first played I got the bad ending and it left me struck. You sure must have lived through some tough break-up in order to know all these small details and describe them so well. If not, you seem to have a really good sense of empathy.

I just think that keeping my supporters and the players updated on the progress of the development is the least I can do.
God Damn I'm invested, I read The Comments and was so worried as I progressed about bad endings and death but I ended up getting so invested in Cassie my heart melted watching her. I've not tried multiple playthroughs yet or harems. I just got so interested in Cassie. The story and play through is solid the scenes are so good.
What I love is what you feel is the right decision or the better one can really be the bad insane fuck things up. I thought being honest with Cassie on day 5 after the talk with Eve was the right thing but I upset her and I genuinely felt guilt and heartbreak xD. Please please keep it up.

Here is the steps required to avoid the bad end :
How to avoid scene 7?
Globally, you avoid Scene 7 by paying attention to Cassie and giving her some "pure love" vibe.
The first key choice is to talk to Cassie while in the lingerie shop, during Day 3. Avoid the "Ok. So what?" option.
The second key choice happens on Day 4 morning, when you meet Cassie in the living room : "Give her a proper kiss." / "I'm sorry." / "You keep saying that."
The third key choice happens on Day 4 either at Cassie's place or during the night, with Eve. At Cassie's place: "This morning was very difficult to handle." Or at night in Eve's bedroom: "I don’t accept it." Yes, that means that you can meet Kelly and still have the throuple path right.
The fourth key choice happens during Day 4 night when you join Cassie in her bedroom. Choose "Except maybe cuddling a bit and having a nice talk." Finally, during Day 5, in Cassie's bedroom, you should be able to choose the following options: "I will tell you everything", "I would choose no-one", "Apologize".
With more than 67 affection points for Eve, and Cassie, you will avoid Scene 7 and Cassie will stay home with you.

Just finished the free version a couple days ago. needed more, bought current update. Love everything about this game. @TheNaughtyCaptain, I think that stands out to me on this one (and maybe its just what I've played so far in other games?), there are so many paths, so many decisions. I played through 3 or 4 times and was still seeing new stuff.
Wishlist (Some I know were discussed in updates)
1) Hints at achievements so I could figure out what I'm missing
2)The Achievement page some I can open and view all the pictures, others are named and labeled like I unlocked it but they aren't clickable, not sure if I'm dumb or just not all are viewable again
3) Video achievement/gallery, I have a whole page of save points of "important" "Scenes" for "Science",

Did it another try, sadly the beginning didn't change, still that nonsensical story about those rumours forwarded to your parents by the schoolmaster, and you get accused and insulted right away by someone you've been all but nice too. What kind of "schoolmaster" tells parents their daughter fools around in the toilets based on rumours ? The MC just measly bows his head, ready to apologize for something that makes no sense. Does it continue to be like that ? I somehow wanted to like the game, but I can't stand stories that impose some conjured up guild on the MC/player, sorry. Drama has to be believable to be accepted, unlike cheerful sexual fantasy. If it sounds made up, stretched, you don't understand why you should feel bad or sympathetic, which has a " cost" for the reader/player that, I don't know, comedy scenes don't have, for example.
I still haven't reworked that scene on Sunday morning.
However, I think it's important to note that Jack's guilt and redemption are a big part of the game. Even if I rework the breakfast with Cassie, that won't change. What the headmaster did, Jack's attitude and so on aren't going to change. Those are things that are or will be explained later during the game. So if you don't like that, Summer Scent may not be a game for you.

I hope this doesn't come across as hostile, but why does this game update so often but I'm not seeing any new content added with the updates?
I publish a dev update post every week so that my followers are informed of the progress of the development. The game itself, however, is updated only when a chapter is complete.
Question, is it possible to fill the gallery in a single playthrough, or is it required to do multiple to fill it? Cause I'm guessing some of them can only be unlocked with specific Eve stats (affection vs submission. Im guessing here).
No, it isn't possible. You will need several playthroughs to get all achievements and complete the galleries.
The breakfast table scene in the throuple path is the funniest scene of the game imho until now. I just laughed so hard. Tried it a few times but missed it until now by one or two points so resigned to the sub/love path with Eve and Cassie. Thank you for the missing pointers.

wow... another game where the MC is getting insulted in the first 1/2 hour... it started nice and slow, but then, I am an "imbecile and an idiot" for having trusted "rumours" about my "sister" before the game even began... The headmaster told us she sucked dicks in the toilets based on some student's account... of course ... the family believed him... of course....
Gee. I agree it's well written for such games, but I am done with VNs constantly insulting / berating the player / MC for absurd reasons. I mean, what's the problem with you all ? Do you think we play games like this to be offended on the thinnest excuse made up by a loose plot ? If it's a game of choices and consequences, then at least only "punish" the MC for what the player actually choose to do, and for believable reasons...

The fact that mc has been an asshole to Eve and is pretty much a moron is kind of the base of the game. The way he reconstruct his relationship with Eve is the core of Summer Scent. If you don't like it, I guess you should move on to another game.

That's weird, because the beginning of the narrative doesn't really give that impression. But if you say so, then yeah, being put in the shoes of an asshole right away is not really my thing. The problem is, beside the fact that he "believed the nasty rumours" about his sister, he doesn't seem to be such a terrible person.... And then the guest of HIS house, even after I was nice to her, just insults you for breakfast all of a sudden... and the MC is right away sorry etc... Something is missing, to make the player accept/understand the situation somehow. Or, let the girlfriend approach the subject more carefully, rather than being so aggressive, which didn't seem plausible ? Well, it's your game, it started well, honestly, but lately I have been a bit tired of vn using verbal abuse way too easily. I come here to relax, not to get bullied ^^
Well, The whole game is told from Jack's perspective. And he doesn't think he is an asshole. He thinks he is a good and virtuous dude. But he says it himself at the start of the game: around him, most people say that he is an asshole. He objectively is. The game, however, is subjectively told. He has done more than just believing the rumours. I give a few hints later in the game.
That being said I have to agree that the beginning of the game is a bit weak and I have some rework to do there. That discussion with Cassie on Sunday morning is on my list of things to rewrite. It clearly needs more context and more depth to be fully understandable.
Ok... well, you're right about the confusion at the beginning, I don't mind anti heroes as such, but context is vastly more important then. Other VN choose blank sheet main characters, which is the easiest (and possibly laziest) way to go, the hardest is to give him a distinct persona without making him too alienating forthe player... I guess there are two ways to play such games, either you distantiate yourself totally from the mc, or you identify with him, but I think the game must very early push you in either direction. Nobody wants to plays and identify with a "moron"... ;)
It can be someone who did something bad, with flaws.... sure, but he must have some redeeming qualities and not be the only black sheep around. That"s how I see it at least. Good luck with the writing anyway!
Well, depending on the path you choose, Jack can become something else and much more than a moron. He can completely change the way the girls look at him.
Ultimately, I guess that Summer Scent is about redemption.
